Following an intensive and highly competitive bidding process, Central Bedfordshire Council has been granted £70million of government Housing Infrastructure Fund for Biggleswade. 

The council bid for this funding, ahead of 3,000 new homes being built to the east of the town to ensure essential infrastructure is in place ahead of town growth. 

The money will fund a new secondary school; a transport interchange at the train station; and a replacement bridge to the north of Biggleswade.

The money will also be used to upgrade the power capacity for the local community, allowing for ever increasing demands as well as business growth.

New state-of-the-art power infrastructure will more than double the amount of electricity available to the area to support business growth and jobs creation. It also means businesses in Biggleswade will be able to easily add high demand power uses, such as electrical charging points for vehicles.

Councillor Kevin Collins, Executive Member for Planning and Regeneration at Central Bedfordshire Council, said: “Securing this advance funding for vital services and infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to planning for, and delivering, sustainable growth.” 

Key partners in the business case development include: Network Rail, UK Power Networks, UK Regeneration, Hallam Land, Highways England, Homes England and the Infrastructure and Projects Authority.
