Bedfordshire in the top 10 places to live in the UK
The top 10 places to live in the UK have been revealed - with London failing to make the shortlist.
Scotland and the North West were the two highest-rated regions as London had to settle for a place outside the top 10 - after it had the UK’s lowest-rated wider region, according to new research by Homeviews.
Edinburgh came out on top with more than eighty per cent of residents giving the area top marks as the city was praised for its transport links and choice of shops and restaurants.
Meanwhile, Worcestershire, Aberdeen, Bristol, Manchester, North Yorkshire, Bedfordshire, Merseyside, Norfolk and Leicestershire all made the top 10.
Edinburgh topped the list after restaurants were praised for their variety and close walking distances - as locals commented on how well the beach, canals and parks were connected to each other.
Local Kit praised the city, he said: “Close to High Street amenities with all retailers providing a valued service and range.
"Desirable area to live includes sporting and leisure facilities close at hand. A growing neighbourhood of similar, smart modern apartments and townhouses - very friendly and well catered for community feel.”
Dan, a local resident, praised Edinburgh for the different forms of transport, he said: "Very convenient location, close to Leith Links, Tesco's, GP and well connected with different bus lines and the (eventually) tram.
"Other developments are in progress in the area which will renew the whole neighbourhood."
The ratings for London dipped during lockdowns but have now recovered to pre-Covid levels - with Bromley the highest-rated London borough and Barking & Dagenham the lowest-rated.
Regional towns saw a boost thanks to hybrid working arrangements as they emerge higher post-Covid as workers split their time between city and regional towns.
Homeviews verified 28,884 reviews between May 2017 and May 2022 to find the highest-rated locations across the UK and within Greater London.
They also assessed the impact of Covid on Location ratings, and how living in a new build affected residents’ experiences of their area.
