CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE’S FIRST NET ZERO CARBON DEVELOPMENT GIVEN GREEN LIGHT
Tritax Symmetry has been granted planning consent by Central Bedfordshire Council for the next phase of development at Symmetry Park, Biggleswade, which will create 577,000 sq ft of new high quality logistics accommodation and will be the first Net Zero Carbon in construction development delivered in the District.
In June 2019, the UK became the first major economy in the world to pass a Net Zero emissions law whereby the aim is to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero by 2050. Speaking on this matter, Tom Leeming, Development Director at Tritax Symmetry, said: “Buildings and construction are responsible for 39% of all carbon emissions in the world. As a responsible developer, we are proud to commit to delivering Net Zero Carbon in construction across all our new developments. To be the first developer to do so in Biggleswade and Central Bedfordshire is a real accolade and we hope to set the bar high for others.”
Kate McFarlane - Assistant Director Business and Investment, Place and Communities Directorate, Central Bedfordshire Council, said: “We are pleased to see commercial investment continues to remain strong in Central Bedfordshire particularly in these unprecedented times. This will be a great opportunity to boost the economy, bringing significant investment to the area which will help create jobs for local people. We look forward to working with Tritax Symmetry to help this scheme come to fruition”.
Located on the established Stratton Business Park, the 45 acre site provides excellent road links to the national motorway network and comprises units of 75,000 sq ft, 112,000 sq ft, 160,000 sq ft and 230,000 sq ft. Symmetry Park, Biggleswade is situated within immediate proximity of the A1 offering quick access to the M25 J23, only 29 miles to the south.
James Haestier, Director, Industrial & Logistics, Colliers International, said: “Continuing on from the successful pre let of 661,000 sq ft to The Co-operative Group it is very exciting to be involved in the next phase of development at Symmetry Park in Biggleswade working with Tritax Symmetry, one of the most active industrial developers in the UK. The new units will provide much needed supply only a short distance from the A1, will be best in class including many sustainable features and located in a dynamic and expanding town that is also fast becoming an established logistics location. I am confident there will be strong demand for the new scheme.”
Construction is anticipated to start in May next year with practical completion due Q4 2021. For further information please contact info@becentralbedfordshire.co.uk
