Central Bedfordshire council is keen to support businesses in the local area save money and continue their sustainability transition.   

As part of the council’s sustainability plan, we are supporting local business, landowners and farmers to transition to a low carbon economy, including help for businesses to work towards a circular economy through support from our Sustainability Team.

Our dedicated Sustainable Transport Team, offer support and advice on a number of transport related solutions such as:

• Switching your fleet to EV
• Setting up an EV car scheme for employees
• Encouraging staff to walk or cycle to work and how to incentivise this
• Promotion of lift share schemes
• Support with travel audits to gauge the demographics of business travel
• Bike and car hire schemes

To help businesses and community agencies support and encourage active travel within their workforce or neighbourhood, our dedicated teams can set up events such as:

• Bike maintenance through “Dr Bike”
• Bike security marking
• Bike lights and reflective bands
• Guided walks

Grants and specialist advice to help businesses support these types of transition are available from a range of networks and agencies.  The Sustainability Team will explore your business challenges and point you in the direction of those services and grants that best suit your needs.

Support is also available for other sustainability schemes which can double up as great employee engagement and awareness raising projects such as tree planting, energy saving, allotments/grow own and other interesting sustainability/social engagement projects.
